university archive
A university archive - A piece of
history
Did you ever wonder about the history of your
university? Or did you ask yourself what the
campus was and looked like about fifty,
one-hundred or even two-hundred years ago?
Whether any celebrities studied there?
A university archive is a unique and highly
informative resource that holds, preserves and
provides access to all documentation about a
university including the building, its
management, lecturers and alumni. In some
university archives you will moreover find
information about individuals and/or
organisation in and around the area the
university is situated in.
The kind of information kept in a university
archive varies and can reviewed either on paper
or the Internet. It includes papers, files,
transcripts, photographs, paintings, recordings
and/or other sources of material representing
the university’s history. Visit our page
on which we report on
school bags.
Usually, a university archive is accessible
either on-line or as part of a university
library. Thus, if you ever intend to dive into
the history of your own or another university,
it is recommendable to check the Internet or the
opening hours of the library, respectively.
Some universities also hold exhibitions of
particular university collections or selected
institutional records. For instance, medical
universities may display files, instruments or
research findings that document the advancements
in medicine in a particular field or of their
own medical training.
In short, a university archive is a piece of
history in itself. It provides information about
a university’s past, present and possible the
future.
